Crossing the Half-Way Point
November 30, 2007 – 2:27 pmWelcome to Working For Financial Freedom. If this is your first visit please read about this blog. You can keep updated by subscribing by email or to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Yesterday I updated our total for the amount of debt we have left to pay and was surprised to see that we have paid off 50% of the debt we started with! We started with $58,345.16 of debt 8 months ago and now have $29,113.16 left to pay. This week I deposited some small checks from surveys, rebates and blog earnings. Little did I realize that sending that small amount of money, $135.46, would put us over the half-way mark. So yay for small victories!
The DIY Landscaping Experiment
682 concrete blocks from Lowe’s were delivered yesterday. Yep, five and a half pallets. Our mini goal this weekend is to lay down the first course of blocks for the retaining wall.
So far we’ve spent:
Concrete blocks $1511.77
2 cu. yds screening sand $64.06
Gloves (for me) and landscaping mesh $52.78
Bobcat rental - $225.20
Pickax (or some kind of ax thing), level,
(misc. small stuff for project) - $31.13
Dirt removal - FREE!
Total spent so far: $1,884.94
Amt Budgeted: $2,000.00 (with $500 additional for unanticipated expenses)
left to buy:
gravel
glue
Selling the Car…
I took pictures of the Mustang yesterday. DH will list it for sale today. Have any tips on selling a car yourself? So far we’ve thought of listing it with Craigslist and Autotrader.
That’s pretty much it. Today is payday so I’m off to update our spreadsheet. I think I might be able to squeeze a little more from the budget to throw at the debt.

Great news on crossing the halfway mark! That’s a big accomplishment, especially within 8 months.
Tips for selling your car:
1. Always include multiple photos. Listings without photos get hardly any attention.
2. Give a compelling reason why you’re selling the car. People are more likely to trust you.
3. Include as many details as possible about the car. A serious car shopper will want to know everything.
4. Don’t fall for a scam. Be particularly wary of out of state buyers, people claiming to be in the military who can’t buy something locally, etc. You can always do a search on Snopes.com or another scam site to check out a suspicious deal.

That is a huge amount of debt paid off in a short amount of time. Good job! Keep it up and you will be debt free in no time.

Thanks Ryan. I hadn’t even thought of giving a reason for why we are selling it.
Singleguymoney,
It is a lot, mostly because we’ve made some huge lifestyle changes, budgeted and stuck to it. We are fans of Dave Ramsey and have taken quite a few of his suggestions for getting out of debt.
