My “Reduce a Bill” Challenge started here, with an update here.

My goal this month is to line dry/air dry at least 4 loads of laundry a week this month in order to reduce my electric bill.

The following bloggers have joined me in the challenge and have each chosen a bill to reduce.

Lynnae @ Being Frugal - Reduce her grocery bill
Mary - “No spend days”
Heather - “No spend days”
Fiveberries- Reduce her dining out bill

If I missed you let me know by leaving a comment please.

How am I doing?

Well, I miss being able to just throw things in the dryer. I’m still drying quite a bit in the dryer (sheets, towels etc..) but hanging things up take does a bit of extra time. It’s not too bad, it’s just that when my 17 month old is awake I don’t have a lot of time for chores. So I’ve been trying to hang the clothes when he is sleeping.

I had an problem air drying my hubby’s t-shirts. They were drying stretched out and funny looking. I’ve solved that problem thanks to my readers and am now drying the t-shirts a little bit in the dryer and then I finish drying them by air drying. So far, no complaints from my husband about it and the shirts look normal.

How is everyone else doing? What has been your biggest challenge this month? Even if you didn’t officially join my challenge have you been able to reduce a bill this month?

  2. Well, I’m not actually sure how it’s going. LOL

As I posted on my blog this morning, my record keeping this month has been horrible. I will guess that I haven’t reduced my grocery bill much, but I’ve definitely gotten a lot more for my money, so I should see some grocery savings in the coming months, as my stockpile grows.

My biggest challenge has been motivation. I’m not motivated to keep track of my spending.

You’re doing great! Are you going to continue the Reduce a Bill Challenge in November?

  3. I’m officially sucking eggs at this challenge. Can I say that here?

It’s still lower than any other month this year, but this month is not over yet. And, I did a great thing this weekend - I spent Sunday afternoon cooking a bunch of dinners, so I have NO MORE EXCUSES in the evenings. Easy dinners, in the freezer, ready in minutes.

So, if I can stay home, I’ll be okay, but this one has been hard, and the hardest part has been wanting to go out to lunch with my husband without the kids. Cheaper than taking the kids, but still, it would be cheaper if we’d just stay in!

Thanks for doing this challenge! I’m looking forward to other updates!

  4. Isn’t this a little too much? do you really need to reduce bills? you don’t have credit debt any more!!

  5. I have 6 of the 10 No Send Days complete and only 7 more days to go. Its been a more difficult challenge than I expected because I’ve been housesitting and haven’t had my grocery stockpile available.

Thanks for hosting the challenge! I’m up for another month if anyone wants to join me.

  6. I am with Laynne about keeping track, I have more than 10 “No Spend Days” but I am not sure on just how many.

I want to do the no spend day challenge again in november, I just need to get more organized for keeping track and being prepared with having enough butter, eggs, flour etc to buy on my grocery day so that I don’t need to run to the store between paydays :).

  7. Lynnae,
I’d like to have it again in November. I’m trying to think of a new idea to change it up a bit, but not make it too hard or something that people will easily give up on… If anyone has any ideas let me know.

    Fiveberries,
It’s ok to say you are sucking eggs. :) I haven’t been enjoying this hanging laundry to dry thing, and haven’t been doing so good. But it sounds like you are spending less right? That is the goal! AND you have meals in the freezer? You are doing way better than me!

    Mary,
We’ll do this again next month. Will you still be housesitting?

    Heather,
How often do you grocery shop?

  8. You are right, we don’t have credit debt anymore. But we still have $30k left on car loans that we want to pay off by next spring. Reducing our bills as much as possible will help us reach that goal. Every little bit helps!

  9. Hi again lol, I seem to be running off to the store to pick up little things which I had missed or thought I had enough of. I have a plan though for my next grocery shop and I should be back on track :).

November is going to be a Great month for us, I can just feel it :).

  10. Yes to the housesitting, but rather than 3 weeks it will only be 1 week. This couple is nice enough to stock a rotissarie chicken for me so I’ll be set.
