A Debt Payoff Progress Update

It’s Friday and payday too. You want the good news or bad news first?
Good news: Last week dh got a bonus so we were able to take a nice chunk out of our debt. Not as big as the snowball we had a few months ago, but still pretty darn good. We are *so* close to paying off the VISA it’s driving me crazy. But it should be paid off in two weeks, if not sooner.
Christmas is coming so that is an extra expense that we are budgeting for; it won’t be extravegent by any means but we will be buying for our kiddos and a few other family members. We are going to sell our house in the spring and *yippea* we are going to install a retaining wall and do some landscaping in the backyard ourselves. (please note the sarcasm). I’m not a huge fan of landscaping, but by doing it ourselves we are going to be able to save SO much. Because of these extra things we need to get done our debt snowball won’t as large over the next couple of months.
Bad news: I’m usually pretty good about keeping track of all our expenses in Microsoft Excel so I was a bit surprised to see some differences between the Excel balance and my actual checking account balance. The Excel balance is more? I printed off a copy of my last bank statement and I’m going to go over it with a fine tooth comb making sure I have recorded every transaction. It’s not a huge difference, and I’m not worried about any checks bouncing or anything like that. But still, something is off and that bugs me.
How is everyone else doing?

Wow, you and your dh are doing great! Where do you plan on moving once you sell your house?
Congrats on being so close to paying off your visa, that has got to feel Good. Dh will be getting some commission money from work in Dec. we will be hopefully paying off the last part of dhs master card then at the latest.
Christmas is just around the corner, I will have to start coming up with frugal ideas as I don’t even know as of yet what we will have for $ when that time comes.
I had a no spend day yesterday YAY! I am putting down for this Sunday to be another one as I will be going for a few groceries if not this evening then tomorrow.

You are doing great!
It must be the month for spreadsheet mistakes. My checkbook balance is $500 less than what my bank shows, and everything shows cleared. That’s a pretty big mistake. I’m going with the lower balance until we have it sorted out.

Lynnae,
That is pretty big, but once you sort it out it will probably work in your favor and you’ll have extra money.
Me, on the other hand, I actually have less than I thought I have. Which is not good. So I need to figure out what I missed. I know it’s not any of the ATM transactions, so I’m guessing it must have been a debit transaction (like at the grocery store).

Thanks Heather.
We are planning to move to California. Crazy I know, but all of dh’s family is there. Otherwise we’d stay here, it’s much more affordable.
Good for you on your no spend day!
Christmas…yeah, I need to get started on that. My kids have already made out their lists and I need to finalize how much we will spend.
