Back from Vacation…Now to Add Up What We Spent…

We got back last night from a 10 day vacation to Maine. We had a certain amount budgeted for the trip to cover gas, food and entertainment. Hotels were free because of the Hilton HHonors points my husband had earned from all his work trips.
You might be wondering why we took a vacation when we are in debt?
We will be moving to the west coast next year and this will really be the last time we will have to visit my family for awhile. After we move to California we will have to buy plane tickets for 5 (plus rent a car) in order to visit my family. Right now we were able to drive to visit them and not spend as much as flying would cost. We set aside the money for the trip and did not increase our debt in order to visit them. Sure, we could have taken the trip money and paid down our debt, but it was really important to us to take our children to see their grandparents and other relatives. It will be at least 1 1/2 years or more before we get a chance to get out there again.
I saved all my receipts and now I’m curious to see just how much we spent. I know we didn’t spend more than we had budgeted for the trip, but I want to see the exact breakdown per category. Gas was by far our largest expense (roundtrip from here to Maine was approximately 2,200 miles).
I’ve got some unpacking to do but I’ll post later with the totals on how much we spent on our vacation to Maine.
