Took Some of My Own Advice Today…

September 7, 2007 – 3:40 pm

Well, I took some of my own advice today.

I made a call to Countrywide to ask them about our escrow account. Not too long after we first bought our first house we realized that not enough money was being put in our escrow account for property taxes and homeowners insurance. In order to make up that amount we’ve been paying extra each month. We are MORE than caught up now and I want my monthly payments to go back to normal.

I’m really glad I took the few minutes to call them.

Our property tax is being paid this month and being deducted from the escrow. After that is deducted they will reanalyze our escrow and reduce the monthly payments.

What does that mean for our bottom line?

Our payments will be about $166 LESS each month.

Of course the customer service rep asked if we wanted to refinance and *possibly* lower our monthly payments even more.

HA HA! Umm… no thanks! I know they can’t offer us anything better than what we already have. But considering the problems that Countrywide (and many other lenders) have been having lately, I don’t blame them for trying.

  3. I ran across your blog through a link i found in a forum and just wanted to congratulate you on how much debt you have been able to pay of as of this posting. Once you get out from under that huge shadow you will feel so exhilerated. I wish you the best.

  5. We use Country Wide too. I am still learning all of this home loan thing. I have always just sent in the amount required, but I am going to call and check on my property taxes and the escrow.
